I'm enjoying the combination of eco dyed fabrics and nuno felting, including them in the same ensemble, but keeping them also separate...allowing them to complement one another and meld into each other.

I create unconventional, unique, and conceptual clothing, while being mindful of the environmental impact during each stage of the pieces' life cycle.
With every piece, I strive to be a pioneer. That is, I discover and create simultaneously.
The MALVAR = STEWART line consists of two categories:
Hard Line: Pieces are created using fine vintage wool fabrics salvaged from unwanted inventory from a men's tailor shop that closed down in Hollywood in the 1950's called Stewart's.
Many fabrics were produced in England and Scotland, using techniques that are now rare or even obsolete.
Pieces include tailored suits, coats, and coordinates. Approximately 70% of every piece is sewn by hand.
Soft Line: This line is created to complement the Hard Line and consists of dresses, blouses, skirts, and wraps.
All fabrics are created using eco-conscious surface design techniques such as nuno felting (using fleece from local farmers), eco-dyeing and imprinting (using natural dyes), shibori dyeing with natural dyes, hand-spinning, hand-weaving, and hand-knitting.
Many fabrics for the Soft Line are dyed, printed by and created in collaboration with fresh cut Textiles. fresh cut Textiles creates unique fabrics, using natural dyes and eco-conscious processes.
MALVAR = STEWART is not only using eco-friendly surface design techniques, but strives toward using more eco-friendly fabrics for the soft line, such as organic cottons and ethical silks.
